This smoothie is nothing fancy, and that’s kind of the point. It’s simple yet delightful and comes together quickly as a breakfast or snack when you’re running out the door. As a bonus, it has no protein powder! This peanut butter banana smoothie is lightly inspired by a smoothie I got in Philadelphia at a little café called B2. I don’t know if that smoothie was so amazing because of the high quality ingredients or because I was absolutely famished after hours of walking, but either way it was inspiring. It reminded me that when you’re really hungry, sometimes simple and quick is best, and wanted to see if I could recreate something similar at home. This peanut butter banana smoothie is the result.

Ingredients for Vegan Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Frozen Banana: Emphasis on the word frozen. Frozen banana is essential for this recipe in order to get the texture right. It adds a creaminess and thickness that simply can’t be replicated with a room temperature banana.
Peanut Butter: Use any peanut butter you fancy, but I must note that simple is best when it comes to nut butter. I prefer nut butters that have nuts and salt as the only ingredients. This peanut butter is one my go-to’s.
Vanilla Yogurt: I tested this recipe with plant-based yogurt, but Greek yogurt would also work. I do prefer this brand of plant-based yogurt because it has a decent amount of protein, but use whatever you like.
Plant-Based Milk of Choice: Just a little bit to get things moving in the blender. I used unsweetened almond milk.
Vanilla Extract: To make sure the vanilla flavor really comes through in this peanut butter banana smoothie.
Ice: Putting ice in a smoothie is a delicate balance. You want to add just enough to create a thicker, frostier smoothie, but not so much that it waters down the whole thing. I recommend 3-4 ice cubes at most for this smoothie.
